It is advocating, celebrating, standing in the gap, and giving space for the voices of the overlooked, oppressed, forgotten, lost be heard. When we join forces, we gain leverage to make changes where we see injustice and inequity.

JOSE ZURITA

Jose Passed Away back in June 2020.
Jose Zurita was one of a kind human, photographer, and journalist. His massive heart for the world around him was like no other. He engaged so deeply with people, making everyone feel loved and like old friends even if it was your first time meeting him. He would give his shirt off his back for a stranger. He was one of the most talented photographers I've ever met and captured the heart and beauty of people in every one of his shots. He saw the beauty in humanity and used his lens to celebrate it. He told stories in ways no one else did. He captured humanity in every photo he took. He went where others wouldn’t, He talked with those other overlooked. He celebrated all.
He had a quiet boldness that invited people in. He walked with humility.
Every time I complimented him on his work he always downplays and tells me how great my work was... In truth, his work inspired and inspires me and I learned so much from his work. He was always the better photographer. He fought for justice and harmony wherever he went and with his calming welcoming self, he made everyone feel loved and seen.
He put his passion for photography to the side at times to focus more fully on people, family, and empowering others as he worked at The Gateway House in Greenville. He brought joy, dignity, and value to people that many overlooked and pushed away.
His work will forever be highlighted here and will continue to inspire, challenge, bring hope & and humanity to people. Rest In Power my friend
