Mission Statement
Humanizing through Story is a photojournalism platform focused on human rights and environmental work with a focus that captures and shares stories to move people from places of comfort to places of active involvement. In addition to sharing the dignity and worth of every human life through these stories, we strive to cultivate conversations around issues affecting marginalized and oppressed groups. We invite to the table anyone willing to do the hard work of healing, wholeness, and looking for better ways forward for those discarded, overlooked, shunned, and oppressed.
Why This Space Was Created
This space was created out of a simple idea: all people deserve humanity and dignity, and I want to push back against the demonization and dehumanization of people.
I want to capture the shared human experience that runs through the veins of all who live and breathe. I want to capture their beauty and heart, passion and value, hopes, dreams, sorrows, and fears. Through my platform and work I want to help elevate the oppressed, bring recognition to those rarely seen or silenced, and provide documentation of injustices impacting communities. Awareness is just where the work starts. I do not just want to tell stories. I want my journalism to help build real change, from racial and social justice to the health and future of our land and environment. These issues do not exist in isolation. They are all deeply intertwined.
I hope to play a small role in helping people dream bigger, love more radically, and step up for one another. My goal is simple: to honor the beauty in every story, shed light on the truth, and inspire action that makes a real difference in their community home and around the world.
